Trunks ha alcanzado un poder mayor que el de Cell, pero todos sus ataques son esquivados. Krilin le da una Semilla del Ermitaño a Vegeta que se recupera. Al mismo tiempo en la Sala del Espíritu y el Tiempo, Gokū lleva a cabo la misma transformación que Trunks, pero enseguida percibe que dicha transformación es muy lenta y que no tendría nada que hacer contra Cell. Después de que Cell le indicara dicha debilidad, Trunks admite su derrota y abandona el combate. Pero Cell se muestra interesado en el rápido aumento de fuerza obtenido por Vegeta y Trunks y propone la apertura de un torneo.
