Rukia se enfrenta con uno de los dos shinigamis llamado Abarai Renji. Después que Renji hiere con facilidad a Rukia, llega Ishida para ayudarla pero también es derrotado. Luego aparece Ichigo, el cual empieza a pelear con Renji. Renji obtiene ventaja en la pelea al liberar su Shikai. Ichigo será casi derrotado por Renji y cae en un estado de inconsciencia pero se recobra al cabo de un rato y ahora sus movimientos son más rápidos y sus ataques son más fuertes.
