Después de la batalla contra Renji, Hanataro y Ganju se llevan a Ichigo por unos pasadizos secretos que Hanataro conocía. Hanataro cura a Ichigo de sus heridas. Por otra parte, Renji es encarcelado por su capitán, Byakuya Kuchiki, por desobedecer las reglas. La teniente del quinto escuadrón, Momo Hinamori, se encuentra con el cuerpo sin vida de su capitán, Sosuke Aizen, encima de una torre cuando iba a una reunión.
